Louis D. Meitzler 100 of Baltic died Monday, March 27, 2017 at Walnut Hills Retirement Home following a period of declining health. He was born January 12, 1917 in Crawford Twp., Coshocton County to the late Otto P. and Florence (Schlarb) Meitzler. He retired in 1982 from the Marsh Lumber co. in Dover after 20 years and formerly worked at the Baltic Lumber Co. for 22 years. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church at Baltic and served as church treasurer for 40 years. He served in the Merchant Marines from 1942-1945 and he and his wife, Gertrude, operated Meitzler Iris Garden since 1959 and enjoyed collecting carnival glass. He was married on August 18, 1940 to the former Gertrude Regula who died October 17, 2013. He is survived by his three sons; Thomas D. Meitzler of Fairborn, OH, Bruce A. (Kathy) Meitzler of West Chester, Illinois and Jerrel C. (Kathy) Meitzler of Smithville, OH, 4 grandchildren; Tara (Michael) Francis, Deborah, Amanda (Mathew) Montgomery, and Faith (Sam) Graf, and 6 great grandchildren Tyler Francis, Natalie, Andrew and Lucas Montgomery, and Sophia and Benjamin Graf. In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded by his daughter-in-law Joanna Meitzler. Services will be held on Friday, March 31, 2017 at 12:00 PM (Noon) at St. John Lutheran Church in Baltic with Pastors David Hammel and Barb DeBord officiating. Burial will follow in West Lawn Cemetery in Baltic. Friends may call on Friday from 11-12 at the Church prior to services. The family wishes to extend their appreciation of care and support to the Staff at Walnut Hills and LifeCare Hospice and the companionship of “Bob” the cat at Walnut Hills.
