Michele Spring Reporting:

(May 10, 2018) Tuscarawas County – 80% of registered voters failed to cast a ballot on Tuesday’s primary election.

Tuscarawas County Board of Elections Director Allan Sayre says he is a little disappointed with how many voters showed up to the polls for the Primary Election.

“If you’re not motivated when it comes to local tax issues, local elected officials; you know the Presidential brings much better numbers, but what affects you day-to-day in and out is the local stuff and it just doesn’t bring the people out.”

Election Day saw a few minor hiccups but overall there were no major problems.

“Overall it went smoothly, most of our little issues were worker issues or voter issues of marking ballots and things like that, so overall it went very smoothly. Still a little disappointed in the voter turnout but that’s the way it kind of is.”

Sayre says he had a feeling it was going to be a lower turnout just by the number of absentee ballots received.
