Mary Alice Reporting:

(Monday, May 14th) New Philadelphia, Ohio – A 25-year-old man was arrested Friday for assaulting his girlfriend at their residence.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, May 9th at an apartment complex on Aspen Lane in New Philadelphia.

New Philadelphia Police Detective Captain Shawn Nelson explains that the 29-year-old woman reported she had been sexually assaulted by her live-in boyfriend, Levi Nathaniel Fleming, during an argument.

“At some point, he had requested she leave the residence. When she attempted to leave the residence he changed his mind and locked the doors and would not let her leave. A struggle ensued and he ultimately held her down.”

Fleming then used a sleeve from a hooded sweatshirt to choke her in and out of consciousness.

“She attempted to scream, at which time, he covered her mouth and nose with his hand. After sexually assaulting her, she was allowed to leave and then ultimately she came to the police station and reported the situation.”

Captain Nelson points out that police interviewed Fleming on Friday and that he confessed to the crime.

Today, police received a warrant from the Tuscarawas County Prosecutors Office for charges of abduction, rape, and domestic violence.
