Man Pleads Guilty in Child Assault Case

<p>Mary Alice Reporting:

(Wednesday, June 13th) New Philadelphia, Ohio – A trial has been averted after a man facing three counts of sexual battery plead guilty.

The case stems from three separate incidents involving one child.

Tuscarawas County Assistant Prosecutor Mike Ernest explains that 40-year-old Jeremy Stout, of New Philadelphia, changed his plea at a pretrial hearing this week.

“The charges took place over about a year of time in which he was alleged to have engaged in the crime of sexual battery and these are incidents that happened in or around New Philadelphia.”

While Stout faces up to a 15-year prison sentence, the prosecution has recommended three years.

“These are the types of cases in which we discuss what potential outcomes could be for the victims and these are often victims that know these people, and when that’s the case, sometimes the sentence is lesser if the victims don’t have to go through being victimized again.”

A judge will make a final decision during a sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 27th.
