Mary E. “Midge” Overton, age 93, of Atwood Lake, and a long-time Dover resident, surrounded by her loving family, peacefully graduated from this life to her eternal home on Thursday, March 15, 2018.
Born January 13, 1925, in Dover, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Vernice Jenkins Teel. Midge received her diploma from Dover High School in 1943, and later, on May 10, 1945, married Harry D. Overton. The couple shared 59 years of marriage prior to Harry’s passing on February 5, 2004. Midge was employed by Dr. H.F. Wherley’s office in Dover for over 30 years, retiring in 1988.
Midge was pleasant, caring and compassionate, and very much enjoyed being with family and friends. She liked oil-painting, reading, music and spending winters in Florida with Harry. Midge was a member of the New Life Church of God, Dover.
She will be greatly missed by her family, which includes her son, Pastor Dode (Hazel) Overton; her three super grandchildren, Ben (Lynsey), Katie and Aaron (Mary Jane) Overton; her five great-grandchildren, Corben, Jamin, Kaden, Brayden and Janae Overton; her brother, Jeff (Brenda) Teel; and her niece, Diane (Nick) Britt.
Besides her parents, and her beloved Harry, Midge was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Rachel and Ronnie Aleshire; and her sister, Sue Marsch.
Midge will be cremated through the care of the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, and the family will hold a private time of remembrance. To sign an online guestbook and share a fond memory, please visit the funeral home’s website.
