Nick McWilliams reporting – Following a sizable drug bust during a traffic stop in New Philadelphia, Mayor Joel Day gave praise to the police force.

Last month, Officer James Miller executed a stop for traffic violations on a pair who had previous drug history.

K9 Pete alerted officers to narcotics, and large amounts of synthetic fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, and marijuana were found in the car.

At council, Day praised the officers for helping keeping drugs off the city streets.

“Drug use and drug trafficking continues to be a plague in our community. The brave men and women of our police department, are out there, doing all they can, every day, to try and stop it. So please show them support at every opportunity, and help them. If you see something, say something.”

Charges are pending for the two from the prosecutor’s office.

The 44-year old driving will likely face felony charges for both trafficking and possession, and the stop occurred in a school, likely adding to charges.
