Melvin Ray Miller, 86, of Sugarcreek died Friday, May 18, 2018 at Tidewell Hospice in Sarasota, Florida.

He was born January 21, 1932 in Madison County to the late Levi M. and Anna (Kauffman) Miller. He attended Lumbard School and Canaan High School at Plain City. He worked for Sterling Bakery, Diebold as a punch-press operator in Canton, Dixie Lighting and retired as an Electrical Contractor. He attended Walnut Creek Mennonite Church and Buena Vista Mennonite Church in Florida. He was a competitive horseshoe pitcher, as was his father and brothers, and was an avid golfer, both in Ohio and Florida.

He was married on February 14, 1957 to the former Virginia Alice Dawson Mann. He is survived by his step children; Virginia Coleen (Cecil Lynn) Ford of New Philadelphia, Cinda Sue Miller of Dover, Linda Lou (Darrell) Murphy of Maui, Hawaii and Howard Bernard Mann Jr. of Sugarcreek, 7 grandchildren; Shawn Ford, Bryan (Rachel) Ford, Heather Kwit, Joseph (Linda) Miller, Kevin Miller, Jenny (Josh) Bauer and Steven Wheeler, 12 great grandchildren; Sophia Ford, Isabel Ford, Zoriannah Kwit, Gabriel  Hamilton, Grace Miller, Zachary Miller, Justin Miller, Brendan Miller, Alisyn Miller, Brayden Bauer, Brooke Bauer and Aubrey Bauer, his sister Sarah (Eli) Schrock  and brother Mose L. (Pauline) Miller both of Sugarcreek, his sisters-in-law Niva Miller of Plain City and Glenna Miller of Indiana.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his 3 brothers Oris, John, and Levi Jr., his sister Mary Yoder, brothers-in-law Melvin Yoder and Jimmy Wheeler and granddaughter Cathy Ann Wheeler.

Services will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at 1:00 PM at the Walnut Creek Mennonite Church with Pastor Don Hamsher officiating.  Friends may call on Wednesday from 11-1 at the Church prior to the services. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek.
