Mary Alice Reporting:

(Wednesday, May 15th) New Philadelphia, Ohio – Construction for a new home improvements store on Bluebell Drive will not begin until later this year.

New Philadelphia Mayor Joel Day explains that previously, construction was originally slated to start this spring now it is set for the third quarter of 2018.

“In the revision, they had to push it back to the third quarter because of all the other stores they’re constructing in Ohio. About 12 stores. They still plan to start construction in July and there will be two out lots there where, once they get the store built, they will decide whether they want to lease those or sell those.”

The agreement remains the same with the city giving the company a 10 year, 50% property tax abatement. Menards must still make efforts to employee 40 full-time and 80 part-time employees.

The new building is projected at $18.3 million.
