Nancy J. Payne, age 61, of Carrollton, and a former Dover resident, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2018, in Woodlawn Compassionate Care Center, Canton, following a brief illness.
Born August 30, 1956 in Dover, she was a daughter of the late Irvin J. and Ruth Mae Baker Payne. Nancy attended Starlight School in New Philadelphia, and went on to work for Starlight Enterprises. She also volunteered at the Carroll County Community Hospice Browse & Buy.
Nancy grew up attending Dover First United Methodist Church, and more recently attended Herrington Bethel United Methodist Church, Mechanicstown. She had happy memories of going to family events at the Dover Eagles Lodge when she was a young lady. Nancy enjoyed music and dancing, she was always kind, and she had a hug and a kiss for everyone she met. Nancy loved life and had a heart of gold. She will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched.
Survivors include her brother, her pal, Bruce (Carol) VanFossen of Carrollton; her nieces and nephews, whom she was very fond of, including Tammy, Tonya, Bill and Brent; as well as her great and great-great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her sister, Rosemary Perry, and her nephew, Bruce VanFossen II.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, on Friday, January 26, 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 27, at 11 a.m., in the funeral home, with Pastor Allen Hill officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard, Dover.
