Mary Alice Reporting:

(Thursday, December 13th) Tuscarawas County, Ohio – Several Tuscarawas and Stark County businesses were evacuated or placed on lockdown after threats were reported.

On Thursday, just before 3pm, Tuscarawas County Sheriff Detectives were notified of a bomb threat and responded to the County Courthouse and Annexation building.

Sgt. Phil Valdez explains that all staff was evacuated.

“We basically had the workers check their workspaces and the surrounding area for anything unusual before they evacuated. We also had the deputies and the detectives to check the buildings to make sure there was nothing unusually left behind.”

Nothing suspicious was found from that search.

Valdez adds that the FBI Canton office was contacted due to the way the broad email threat was received and the content, which asked for a ransom.

“We didn’t really take any validation into the threat. We did take all of our precautions to check the area but the threat was an open-ended threat, as far as, they weren’t really naming a certain building, or place, or person.”

Tuscarawas County businesses receiving the threat included Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital and the County Board of Developmental Disabilities, as well as multiple companies in Stark County.

FBI officials will conduct any necessary follow-ups.
