Nick McWilliams reporting – With high school football underway in 2020, the annual NP vs/ Dover Blood Battle will kick off September 30th.
With uncertainty surrounding high school athletics amid a health pandemic, the blood donation event was initially put on hold.
However, Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital Director of Community Relations Darrin Lautenschleger says that fans will still be able to go head-to-head by the end of the month.
“This is one of those feel-good distractions at this point, where you can do something [and] participate in something to help out residents in your own community. And be a part of something fun, where there’s no bigger stage, at times, throughout the year than the Dover New Philadelphia football game.”
Last year, nearly 100 units were donated, with Tornado fans winning, 58-39.
For every one unit donated, up to three lives can be impacted or saved.
Results of the blood battle will be announced during the Dover and New Philadelphia football game on October 2nd.
Donations can be made September 30th from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Tuscarawas County YMCA.
