Olis E. Miller – June 14, 2017

Olis E. Miller 92 of Walnut Hills Retirement Community in Walnut Creek passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2017.  She was born December 31, 1924 in Berlin Twp. to the late Alvin J. and Sevilla (Miller) Miller.

Olis was a member of Walnut Creek Mennonite Church where she was very involved in the music program, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, serving as a Deaconess and participating in the women’s quilting group. She and her husband, Payson, were actively involved in the Holmes County Chapter of Gideon’s International for many years.

Olis worked at the former Burger Hardware in Sugarcreek for 24 years. After retiring she served as a step-on guide for local tour buses and volunteered at Save and Serve in Millersburg and the Amish and Mennonite Heritage Center in Berlin. Olis loved singing, traveling, entertaining and spending time with family and friends.  Most of all she loved the Lord and found peace and joy in all circumstances through her faith.

She was married to Payson Mast Miller on October 14, 1945 and he preceded her in death on August 10, 1995.  She is survived by her children Karen (Andy) Ahijevych of Columbus, Steven (Connie) Miller of Millersburg, and Glennis (Judson) Menuez of Benton; brother Paul Miller of North Canton; and sisters Ruth Mullet of Walnut Creek; Myrtle Fricke of McMinnville, Oregon; Gladys Mumper of Loudonville; and Lorene Wenger of Berlin; four grandchildren, Tonja Ahijevych of Longmont, Colorado; Phoebe (Bradley) Heffron of Columbus; Jeremy (Ellen) Ahijevych of Dublin, OH; and Emily (Witold) Tonn of Indialantic, Florida; and two great grandchildren, Meadow and Adam Ahijevych.  In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her brothers Vernon Miller, Wayne Miller and Galen Miller; and an infant daughter Dulce. 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, June 18, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Walnut Creek Mennonite Church with Pastor Don Hamsher officiating. Private Family Burial will be held in the Church Cemetery prior to Services.
