OMJ Educates about ID Theft Prevention

(Monday, September 10th) New Philadelphia, Ohio – In one week, a seminar will teach residents about identity theft and prevention strategies.

Ohio Means Jobs is partnering with United Way of Tuscarawas County and Huntington Bank for this two-hour seminar.

OMJ Public Relations Specialist Monica Rose Gwin says the free event is open to all citizens.

She explains that identity theft could potentially impact a job seekers chance of getting hired.

“[Identity thieves may] rack up credit charges and a lot of those things is what employers check on when they’re doing background checks. So, that could possibly impact your employment opportunities.”

Safety tips include protecting personal information by never giving it out over the phone, to safeguard any mail, and consistently check financial or credit card statements.

The Identity Theft Seminar Monday, September 17th is from 10 am until noon at the OMJ Tuscarawas County Office at 1260 Monroe Street in New Philadelphia.
