Harold A. Gonter 94, a lifelong resident of Ragersville and a resident of Park Village Health Care Center at Dover since September of 2010, died Sunday December 4, 2011 at 3:30 AM after an extended illness. Born June 6, 1917 in Ragersville he was a son of the late Harry and Lucy (Sampsel) Gonter.
He retired from the former Dover Motors in 1984 and was a member of Ragersville Zion United Church of Christ. He was an Army Veteran of WW II and a member of the New Philadelphia V.F.W.
He was preceded in death by his first wife the former Twila Stein in 1987 and his second wife the former Lillian Myers in 1992. Surviving are a son Randy (Kathi) Gonter of Green, Ohio; a daughter Connie (Les) Bickford of Sugarcreek; 4 grandchildren Brent and Bryan Bickford and Abby and Grant Gonter and 2 great grandchildren; a long time companion Vivian Hines of New Philadelphia and 2 sisters Iva Archinal of New Philadelphia and Hazel Gerber of Country Club Nursing Home at Dover.

In addition to his parents and wives he was preceded in death by a brother Chester and 3 sisters Grace, Irma, and an infant sister.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday December 7, 2011 at 11:30 AM in the Smith-Varns Funeral Home at 1018 W. Main St. Sugarcreek. Pastor Darcy Miller will officiate and burial will follow in Fiat Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 10:00 AM until time of service.
