Harlan Immel



Harlan Immel, 92, of 256 N. Mill St. Sugarcreek, died Friday December 16, 2011 in Walnut Hills Nursing Home at Walnut Creek after a brief illness.  Born July 4, 1919 in Holmes County he was a son of the late William and Elva (Stutzman) Immel. He worked for 41 years for the former Clay Craft Brick Co. at Sugarcreek then retired in 1985 from the Belden Brick Co. after 5 years. He was a longtime member of the Walnut Creek Mennonite Church. He loved his family and prayed for each family member daily.
His wife the former Ruby Miller, whom he married April 28, 1945, preceded him in death in March 1993. Surviving are 3 sons Ellis Immel of Sugarcreek, Gordon (Donna) Immel of Kidron and Nevin (Sharlene) Immel of Sellersville, Pa.; 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a daughter Carol Shoup, 2 brothers Robert and Glenn Immel and a sister Clara Mae Schlegel.

A celebration of life service will be held Tuesday December 20, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the Walnut Creek Mennonite Church with Pastor Don Hamsher officiating. A luncheon will be held following services at the church. Prior to services a committal service will be held in the Walnut Creek Mennonite Church Cemetery at 10:00 AM. Visitation will be held Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM in the Walnut Creek Mennonite Church and on Tuesday from 9 to 10 AM also in the church. Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek is handling the arrangements. For those unable to attend please visit the funeral home’s web site to share a memory and sign the guest register.
