Esther June Kinsey



Esther June Kinsey, 87, Greensboro, North Carolina, formerly of Port Washington, passed away on Thursday, December 15, at the Carriage House Memory Care facility, Greensboro.  Esther was born in Port Washington on December 3, 1924, a daughter of the late Roy H. Ruppenthal, who died in 1966, and the late Clara Elizabeth Blind Ruppenthal, who died in 1987.
 
She was a graduate of Port Washington High School, class of 1942. She then secured a position with the U. S. Air Force Command Center at Wright Patterson Field, Dayton, where she worked as a secretary. In 1946, Esther joined General Electric as a management secretary at their Coshocton facility. On November 28, 1946, she married Floyd W. Kinsey, who was also an employee of General Electric, Coshocton.. Esther spent several more years at Coshocton with General Electric before her retirement in 1956. She then joined Floyd in his General Electric career in Cincinnati and Arlington Heights, Illinois. In Illinois, Esther was employed by the Cook County Farm Bureau until her retirement in 1980. The couple then moved to Greensboro, North Carolina, Atlanta, Georgia, and Wake Forest, North Carolina. In Wake Forest, she served as a secretary for the Wake Forest Country Club until their retirement in 2004 and their move back to Greensboro.

Esther excelled in music from an early age and possessed the talent to play popular songs on the piano without the use of music. After studying piano and organ, she played for various social functions and also became the local church organist. Esther also loved bowling and playing golf and played in several bowling and golf leagues throught the southeastern United States.

In addition to her parents, Esther was preceded in death by two sisters, Inez (Mrs. Arthur) Vaupel, Canton, and Erma (Mrs. William) Bruce, Port Charlotte, Florida.

In addition to her husband, Floyd, she is survived by her son and his wife, Bill and Dana Kinsey, a grandson, Landon Kinsey, currently a cadet at the United States Air Force Academy, and a granddaughter, Jenna. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, June (Mrs. Herbert) Stemple, New Philadelphia, and June’s family, daughter Jodatha and husband Melvin Hren, granddaughter Amy, grandson Victor, and great granddaughter Xenia, all of New Philadelphia, and grandson John and wife Naomi Stemple, currently serving with the U. S. Navy in Guam, and their two children.

 Funeral services to celebrate Esther’s life will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2:00 PM, in the St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 114 North High St., Port Washington. Rev. Dr. Robert E. Buckley will conduct the service. Burial will follow at Salem-UnionCemetery, Port Washington. Visiting hours will also be held on Tuesday at the church, beginning at Noon until the 2:00 PM funeral. The family is requesting that memorials be made in Esther’s name to the St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, PO Box 36, Port Washington  43837.
