River Search Could be a Hoax, Ties up Safety Crews
Paula Wilcoxon Reporting
Dover police and fire fighters from three area departments spent a couple hours early Friday morning searching the Tuscarawas River after two people reported hearing a splash.
Dover fire fighters were called by police about 12:30 a.m. to investigate an area near the Tuscarawas Avenue Railroad Bridge.
Fire fighter Randy Jones says boats and dive teams were brought in and portable lights were set up on the bridge and near the river bank.
Information later received from police indicates the incident may have been a hoax.
Jones says the incident tied up quite a few fire personnel and police for about two hours overnight.
New Philadelphia and Uhrichsville fire fighters assisted Dover at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation by Dover police.
