A Sunday afternoon crash has claimed the life of a Millersburg area boy.
Officials with the Holmes County Sheriff’s Department say 16-year-old Loyal L. Miller of Fresno was driving a1999 Mercury southbound on State Route 557, just north of Guggisberg Cheese, around 12:45 pm, when Miller attempted to pass another vehicle.
Deputies say Miller allegedly lost control, traveled off the left side of the road, struck a pile of sandstone block, rolled three times and came to a rest in the parking lot of Doughty Valley Hardware.
17-year-old Tyson Miller, a front seat passenger, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was ejected from the vehicle and later pronounced dead by Holmes County Coroner Dr. Robert Anthony.
16-year-old Creed R. Hostetler of Millersburg, a back seat passenger, was transported to Pomerene Hospital and later transferred to Akron Children’s Hospital.
Deputies say Hostetler and Loyal Miller reportedly sustained non-life-threatening injuries and say both boys were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
Drugs and/or alcohol do not appear to be a contributing factor to the crash at this time.
The investigation continues.
