City to Update Handbook, Civil Service Rules & Regulations

Policies and procedures for New Philadelphia are getting an upgrade.

Mayor Mike Taylor says the city will work with its human resources consulting firm, Clemans Nelson and Associates, to revise its employee handbook and create a new set of civil service rules and regulations.

Taylor says the firm will review a previous handbook that is five to six years old.

Taylor adds that the process will also create a document for the city's non-bargaining employees.

Once approved by council, Taylor says the new handbook will supersede all other past documentation.

On a similar note, Taylor says Clemans and Nelson will also work to create a new set of civil service rules and regulations. The city currently does not have a formal set of such rules and regulations in existence.

Taylor says the new set will give officials parameters to operate within and will primarily deal with the city's police and fire departments.

In total, Taylor says he expects the process for both the handbook and the rules and regulations to take approximately three to four months before they are completed and ready for the review of council.
