Work to permanently close the Holmes County Landfill is progressing well. County commissioner Joe Miller credits good weather for moving the project along at a faster than anticipated pace. Work to prepare the site for the liner construction and cap process began in February. Miller says they’re looking at a completion date of sometime in late summer instead of late fall. Ryan Incorporated, a Wisconsin based landfill specialist is in charge of closing the landfill. Miller says they’ve encountered few problems since the project began. Miller reminds residents to stay off landfill property. He says it’ll be a while before anyone is allowed to hunt on the 256 acre site. The county has secured $2.6 million in bonds to close the landfill.
