Council Discusses Possible Solution to Income Tax Issue
Nathan Cozart Reporting
A possible new approach to income tax collection could generate more money for the village of Dennison.
During Thursday night's meeting, council continued to discuss the possibility of using the Regional Income Tax Agency (RITA) to collect income taxes for the village.
Mayor Tim Still says the idea is an ongoing matter.
Still says, based on 2011 figures that show Dennison collected approximately $630,000 in income taxes, RITA would initially charge the village a relatively standard rate.
Still says RITA possesses the ability to cross-reference information to help potentially collect more income tax money for the village.
In other news, Council approved the recommendation by Mayor Tim Still to hire Kathy Norman as the village's new fiscal officer and council clerk. Norman will replace outgoing fiscal officer and clerk Shannon Fawcett, who resigns from the position, effective June 30th.
