The public is encouraged to stop by Harry Clever Airport in New Philadelphia and see the airplane made famous by American aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart.
Terry Henry, spokesman for the Experimental Aircraft Association, local chapter 1077, says Joe Shepherd of Georgia has agreed to fly his restored Lockheed Electra 12A to town this Saturday.
Earhart was flying a Lockheed Electra Model 10, which is reportedly very similar to Shepherd’s airplane, when she disappeared in 1937.
Henry says Shepherd’s airplane has a storied history to it as well.
Henry says visitors can see the Electra for free between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
To help pay for the gas to get the Electra to New Philadelphia and other projects, Henry says a chicken barbecue will be held on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
He says the local E.E.A chapter holds various educational programs throughout the year for both kids and adults.
Again, the Lockheed Electra 12A will be on display at Harry Clever Airport this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the chicken barbecue runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
