Storms Cause Power Outages, Damage across Listening Area

Over 420,000 American Electric Power customers remain without service.

Severe storms that rolled through much of the listening area Sunday night led to widespread outages across the state.

According to AEP, crews are working to restore service to customers as safely and quickly as possible.

Federal Emergency Management Agency officials are also working with state officials and relief workers to determine the biggest needs in the state, especially considering severe storms swept through the state on Friday.

On a similar note, motorists are advised to use caution on area roads due to possible debris from weekend storms.

The storms also caused a significant amount of damage to docks, pontoons and boats docked at Tappan Lake Marina.

A damage estimate is not yet available.

Of course stay tuned to WTUZ for additional storm and power updates as they become available.
