Reed Sentenced to Prison

A New Philadelphia man will spend nearly three decades behind bars on attempted murder and other charges.

21-year Russell “JR” Reed was sentenced Wednesday morning by Tuscarawas County Common Pleas Court Judge Elizabeth Lehigh-Thomakos to 29 years in prison.

A jury found Reed guilty earlier this week on two counts of attempted murder and two counts of felonious assault.

The charges stemmed from an incident in February where Reed shot two New Philadelphia men while they were sitting in a parked car outside a Maple Avenue NW residence.

His sentence also includes time to be served on drug charges that Reed pleaded guilty to prior to the start of his attempted murder trial.
