A Louisville man has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges in connection with the recent death of a Uhrichsville woman.
Thirty-year-old Richard A. Schreckengost Junior appeared in Municipal Court in CantonThursday on a felony count of leaving the scene of an accident and misdemeanor counts of vehicular manslaughter, failure to control, marked lanes violations and speeding.
A preliminary hearing on the felony charge of leaving the scene has been set for next week.
Schreckengost was allegedly traveling east on U.S. Route 62 during the early morning hours of July 7th, in a 2001 Chevy Tahoe, when he allegedly struck and killed twenty-nine-year-old Heather K. Smith, who was walking west after being released from the Stark County Jail.
Schreckengost reportedly notified police of the incident after learning of Smith’s passing and reportedly told police that he initially thought he had struck a deer.
