She was employed as a typist for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Akron,O. from 1958 to 1962, was a waitress at the Atwood Lake Lodge for 20 years, and most recently worked for her daughter as a receptionist at the Atwood Beauty Dock at Dellroy. Nell was a graduate of the former Dellroy High School, and was a member of its last graduating class.
She was born January 9, 1937 in Cleveland, Ohio and was the daughter of the late John and Goldie Huggins Potts. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wade C. Kerr, who died May 20, 1990, a step-daughter Margaret "Peggy" Averill, a brother Charlie Potts, and two sisters Kathy D. Dirth and Carol Osborn.
Nell was the foundation, as strong and timeless as any, on which her family was built. She was an individual who never turned away any person in need. Often Nell invited these people to stay in her home so she could share their burdens and help put them back on their feet. She gave to them the gifts of shelter, guidance, and abundant love. She epitomized beauty in strength. A testament for the love she showed to the world's "strays" is that she was called "Mom" by many besides her own children. And her children recall and respect the devotion she held for them. Nell showed this devotion in her actions - that she never missed a child's sporting event, or travelled throughout the country as not to miss the birth of any of her grandchildren. The strength of her devotion will impact her family for generations to come.
She is survived by her children Joseph J. (Tammy) Kerr of Fayetteville, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Eric (Carol) "Toady"` Haines of Dellroy, O., Eric (Valerie) Kerr of Bolivar, Ben William (Angela) Kerr of Kaplan, Louisiana, her step-son, Wade C. (Kim) Kerr of Akron, O., a step-daughter, Mrs. David (Kay) Steiner of Mogadore, O., seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Bill (Betty) Carr of Hollywood, Florida and Mrs. Nick (Vern) Habian of Oregon, a brother, Jimmy Potts, and three half-siblings Debbie, Karen, and Dave.
