Troopers with the New Philadelphia Post of the State Highway Patrol are investigating a fatal crash near Dennison.
Troopers say 44-year-old Tammy D. White of Dennison was attempting to turn left from a private drive to travel west on U.S. 250, shortly before 8:30 Monday night, when a 1999 Freightliner tractor trailer combination, driven by 59-year-old Gary P. Smidga of Homer City, Pennsylvania, traveling east, struck White’s 2000 Plymouth Neon.
Troopers say White was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash and say Smidga was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Troopers say the crashed caused the tractor trailer to spill its load of metal cylinders and say 250 was closed for several hours following the crash.
Due to the extent of damage, troopers say it’s not yet known if White was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and say alcohol is suspected as a factor in the crash.
