The number of children in foster care in Tuscarawas County hit a year-to-date high in July.
According to figures from the county Department of Job and Family Services, there were 124 children in foster care last month, compared to 123 in June.
So far this month, there are 123 children in foster care.
Gayle Hahn, JFS Placement Services Supervisor attributes the higher numbers to larger sibling groups coming into care.
Hahn says she expects to see those numbers drop a little due to 7 adoptions that are scheduled to be finalized this month.
She says they generally like to see children in foster care reunited with their birth families.
With so many children needing a safe place to stay, Hahn says they’re continually recruiting new foster parents.
Hahn says one reason people choose to become foster parents is because of the children and the trauma that they have experienced in their birth home.
