Texting Ban Takes Effect

The texting ban for Ohio drivers goes into effect Friday.

Brian Newbacher, Director of Public Affairs with Triple-A of East Central Ohio, says drivers under the age of 18 are not allowed to text, use cell phones or other hand-held devices.

Newbacher says texting while driving will be a secondary offense for drivers 18 years of age and older.

Newbacher says according to a recent Triple-A Foundation survey, 35% of motorists admit to texting while driving.

It will be six months before you can get a ticket for texting while driving and police will only be issuing warnings.

Newbacher says above all, it’s important to remember that texting while driving is extremely dangerous.

Governor John Kasich signed the legislation into law on June 1st.

Ohio is the 39th state to ban texting while driving.
