Health and Fitness Director Brandi Hibbs says the Y is providing two opportunities to enroll in their Diabetes program through a grant from the United Way of Tuscarawas County.
According to the Ohio Department of Health, more than 10 percent of adults have been diagnosed with diabetes.
Hibbs says there is definitely a need in the community for this type of program.
Overall, Hibbs says the Y hopes to promote a healthy lifestyle.
Again, there will be two 7-week Diabetes Prevention, Self-Management and Support programs beginning at the Y on Tuesday the 11th at 5:30 PM or the 12th at 7:00 PM.
In order to qualify, you must be overweight, and at high risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes or have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes or have Type 2 Diabetes.
In addition, you must be willing and able to exercise a minimum of 150 minutes per week, maintain a food/exercise journal and meet with a wellness coach weekly.
