Former School Secretary Sentenced to House Arrest

A former West Holmes secretary accused of stealing nearly $5,000 from the eighth grade field trip fund could avoid time behind bars.

Holmes County Common Pleas Court Judge Robert Rinfret sentenced 56-year old Kathryn Hoffman of Nashville to 11 months in prison on one count of theft by deception, but immediately suspended that prison term.

Instead, Hoffman will serve one year of house arrest with electronic monitoring, three years community control, pay a $1,000 fine, complete 200 hours of community service and write a letter of apology to the West Holmes School District.

Hoffman reportedly admitted to borrowing money from the account because her husband was sick and she was the sole provider for her family and they were falling behind on bills.

Hoffman reportedly has repaid all the $4,735 taken as verified by the school district.
