David A. “Tyke” Myers, 70, of Uhrichsville, passed away on Friday, September 21, 2012 at Hospice House in New Philadelphia, after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer. Born May 30, 1942 in Dennison, he was a son of the late Jacob Francis Myers and Martha Isabelle (Betts) Myers Reffett.
On December 7, 1968, after an eight year courtship, David married Mary Elizabeth “Honey” (Brehm) Myers who survives him at their home. He is also survived by two sons, Thomas L. Brehm Myers of Yuba City, Ca. and David A. Lorenz Myers of Uhrichsville; a daughter, Cynthia (James) Scott of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Brandon James Scott of Yuba City and Bradley David and Cody Howard Scott of New Philadelphia; brothers, Gary Lee (companion, Jane) Myers of Springfield, O., Ronald Lynn (Rose) Myers of Uhrichsville and Scott Bryan (Rose) Reffett of Springfield, O.; sisters, Sharon Hindman of Texas and Rosanne Dixon of New Philadelphia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Nicohle Elizabeth Myers, and four brothers, Richard, Alvin and Duane Myers and Steve Reffett.
Tyke was employed by McKeever Decorating in Dover for forty years and had also been the business agent for the painters’ union during that time. He enjoyed gardening in his spare time. Tyke was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved being with his family and especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was Methodist by faith.
In keeping with Tyke’s wishes, a private family service, officiated by Rev. Harry Milligan and Rev. Brian Flood, will be held at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. No public visitation is planned.
