Charles C. Swonger



Charles C. Swonger, age 82, of Zoar, Ohio, died Saturday afternoon, September 22, 2012 in his daughter Linda Sue's residence at Sherrodsville surrounded by his loving family, and his special niece Tracey.

He was a self-employed farmer, and was retired from the U.S. Ceramic Tile Company at East Sparta.

He was born February 25, 1930 in Dover, Ohio and was the son of the late Elmer and Mary Mohart Swonger. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Max Swonger, a sister Wilma Levengood, and a niece Cathy Levengood.

He was a lifetime member of the Zoar Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Zoar United Church of Christ. Although he kept very busy tending to the operations of his farm, he enjoyed playing euchre. He was particularly fond of playing cards with his friends at both the Bolivar Army-Navy Garrison #1982 and the Beach City Army-Navy Garrison.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Ann "Gerry" Hennis Swonger, whom he married August 21, 1948 in Greenup, Kentucky, and three daughters, Mrs. Don (Kaye) Wenner of Columbus, O., Mrs. Steve (Linda Sue) Moreland of Sherrodsville, and Mrs. Ray (Bonnie) Lieser of Bolivar, his five granddaughters, Teri Lieser and Holly Lieser, both of Canton, O., Mrs. Max (Tiffany) Margolis of Bexley, O., Meridith Donato of Cincinnati, O., and Mrs. Robert (Stephanie) Ramsey of Zoar, a grandson Sam Moreland of East Canton, O., two sisters, Helen Peden of Bolivar, and Mrs. Kent (Connie) Kirker of Zoar, and two great-grandsons Benjamin and Charlie Margolis of Bexley, and 2 great-granddaughters, Harley Quinn Ramsey of Zoar and Reighlyn Lieser of Canton, and a number of loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 26, 2012 in the Zoar United Church of Christ, 142 E. Fifth St., Zoar, O. with Rev. Ken Hutchinson officiating. Interment will follow in the Fort Laurens Cemetery at Bolivar. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 11:00 A.M. until time of services in the church.
