Company Seeks Amendment and Ratification of Oil and Gas Lease

Dover council is considering amendments to a 27-year old oil and gas lease in the city.

Law Director Doug O'Meara says the original lease dates back nearly three decades.

In accordance with the terms and conditions of the lease agreement, Dover has received royalties from the well behind the Dover Burial Park. Because the forty acre well is still in production today, O'Meara says the company, Lake Region Oil Inc., is seeking to amend the lease with the city to compensate for a larger well in the area.

Although the information is not disclosed, O'Meara says he assumes the company already has its remaining acreage in place for the change.

The ordinance authorizing the amendment and ratification to the oil and gas lease was held for a second reading Monday night.
