Doran Widder



Doran Widder, 94, of 6950 Old Route 39 NW Sugarcreek slipped into the Arms of Jesus on Friday, October 5, 2012 at the Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia.  He was born March 11, 1918 on the home farm at Sugarcreek to the late Benjamin and Maggie (Ott) Widder.

Doran was a lifelong farmer, a member of Union Hill United Methodist Church, Master/President of Tuscarawas County Pomona and Winfield Granges, charter member of the Tuscarawas County Power Association, 35 year member of the Tuscarawas County Fair Board and was in charge of Old McDonald Farm at the fair. 

He was married April 18, 1948 to the former Charlotte M. Kinsey who preceded him on December 17, 2010.  He is survived by his children Dan (Elaine) Widder of Sugarcreek, Les (Dana) Widder of Coshocton and Brenda Widder of Sugarcreek, his 5 grandchildren Dave (Becky) Widder, Denise (Scott) Cooley, Heidi Stone and companion Justin Kraves, Luke Widder and Ethan Widder, 2 great grandsons Matthew Widder and Max Cooley and was awaiting the arrival of 2 additional great grandchildren. 


In addition to his parents and wife he is preceded by 2 brothers Delbert Widder and Kenneth Widder and 2 sisters Catherine Hostetler and Opal Swank. 
Services will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Union Hill United Methodist Church 7877 Union Hill Rd. NW, Sugarcreek  with Rev. Carl Kandel and Rev. Harry Milligan officiating.  Burial will follow in Union Hill Cemetery.  Friends may call on Monday 2-4 and 6-9 PM at Union Hill United Methodist Church where Grange memorial services will be held at 8 PM.  Arrangements are being handled by Smith-Varns Funeral Home at Sugarcreek.  The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Union Hill United Methodist Church, Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County or the Salvation Army.  For those unable to attend please visit the funeral home’s website to share a memory and sign the guest register.
