Following retirement from the Timken Company in Canton following 30 years of service, Larry was one of the original employees of Ace Hardware Store at Dover having worked the past eleven years.
Born Aug. 19, 1948 in Parkersburg, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Denzil J. and Nellie Pearl (Evans) Jones.
He was a longtime member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Dover and was actively involved in the Men’s Fellowship and Banquet Committee of the church. He served the Strasburg Lions Club in many capacities including several terms as its President and served as District Governor. He was awarded 30 years of perfect attendance and over the years chaired the Rose Day Committee. He was awarded the Melvin Jones Award for his work in Lionism. He was also involved the Boy Scouts for over 35 years where he was Committee Chairman and Past Leader. Other activities include the Dover Tornado Club and the Timken Retirees Lunch Bunch. Larry was a 1966 graduate of Strasburg Franklin High School. Anyone who knew him would consider him “Mr. Reliable” When he took on an activity, you could always count on him to do it and do it right. He was a deeply devoted grandfather who never missed a grandparent camp or a school activity or sporting event.
He will be deeply missed by his family including his wife Mary Jo (Espenschied) Jones with whom he celebrated 43 years Sept. 14; a daughter and son in law Renee and Jon Ladrach of Dover and his grandchildren Logan and Madison; a sister, Wilma Snyder and companion Carl Schriever of Dover and a brother in law Gary (Trudy) Espenschied of New Philadelphia.
A service celebrating Larry’s life will be held Friday, Oct. 12, 2012 beginning at 11am in the St. John’s United Church of Christ at Dover with Rev. Gene Kraus officiating. Interment will be in the Ridgecrest Memory Gardens. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Thursday from 4-8pm and Friday at the church one hour prior to services.
