ODOT’s District 11 hosted its annual Operational Readiness event Monday at its transportation garage.
Lloyd MacAdam, District 11 Deputy Director, says the purpose of the event is to make sure Tuscarawas County’s twenty-one snowplow trucks are fully functional before the ice and snow strike.
MacAdam says plow drivers also have to undergo a refresher course on winter driving, among other things.
MacAdam says new this year are new lights for ODOT’s trucks aimed at increasing their visibility.
As for the county’s stock of road salt, MacAdam says 10,100 tons are currently being stored in various locations in the county.
He says ODOT was able to secure a lower price per ton for salt this year.
ODOT District 11, which encompasses a seven county region in eastern Ohio, is responsible for treating 522 lane miles and 193 bridges in Tuscarawas County alone.
