City Sees Savings with Salt Bids

Off the heels of last year’s mild winter season, New Philadelphia is seeing some green with their salt bids this year.

Mayor Mike Taylor says last year, the city, who partakes in a joint bid for salt through the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), purchased salt at a rate of $67.34 per ton. He adds that with this year’s rate of $46.81 per ton, New Philadelphia could stand to save thousands.

Taylor says crews will begin prepping for the winter within the next month or so.

Taylor says he would be pleased with yet another mild winter this season because that could help the city with other expenses, including overtime, diesel fuel costs, and equipment upkeep.
