Nettie was a longtime member of the Dover Missionary Alliance Church. She loved singing in the choir and teaching Sunday School. Nettie and her husband sang with the “Gospel Strings” for many years at numerous nursing homes in the area. Nettie will be deeply missed by her old neighbors and friends and will remain in the hearts of her children and sisters always.
She married Wayne “Jim” Shepherd on June 19, 1959 and he preceded her on October 29, 2004. Nettie and Wayne raised seven children who survive her; Linda Green and Gloria (Jon) Infield both of Sugarcreek, Wanda Ross and Martha Hutchinson both of Dover, Joe (Ginger) Steed of Port Washington, Eugene (Wanda) Steed of Newcomerstown and Juanita Shepherd Rennicker of Dover, her two sisters Evyline Simmons and Eunice Shepherd, 13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her step sister Janice Arnold and step brother Doug Randles, a son-in-law Doug Hutchinson and grandson William “Bill” Steed and two infant brothers Billy and Gene.
Private family services will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Smith-Varns Funeral Home at Sugarcreek with Pastor Rick Rose officiating. Burial will follow in Union Hill Cemetery at Sugarcreek. Public calling hours will be held on Tuesday 1-2 PM at Smith-Varns Funeral Home at Sugarcreek prior to the family services.
