HEAP Winter Crisis Program to Help Households Meet Heating Expenses

The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) officially began its Winter Crisis Program Thursday.

Michele Lucas, Community Services Director for HARCATUS Family Support Centers, says the Winter Crisis Program is designed to help those in low income households with their home heating bills and utility payments.

Lucas says qualification for the program is based on need and by income.

While last winter was mild, Lucas is concerned that this winter will be much colder and is worried in particular about the elderly. She says no one should worry about there not being sufficient funds in the program for them.

Lucas says the best way for anyone to find out whether or not they’re eligible is to call HARCATUS in New Philadelphia at (330) 343-8770 or in Dennison at (740) 922-3600.

The program runs through March 31st.
