Towpath Trail Extended Locally

The Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath Trail is stretching a little farther in Tuscarawas County.

Dan Rice, President and CEO of the Ohio and Erie Canalway Coalition, says construction of 2.7 miles of the Towpath Trail from Zoar to Zoarville is underway.

Rice says this $200,000 project is made possible through a generous state grant that was matched with funds from several local foundations.

With construction of the Zoar to Zoarville section, slightly more than 83 miles of the Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath Trail are completed.

Rice says the goal is to have the trail completed in the next eight years.

Rice says a lot of progress has been made locally on the trail in recent years.
