Captain Rick Kinsey says the state fire marshal’s office ruled the blaze that broke out early Friday morning at 126 1/2 East 3rd Street as accidental.
Michael McQuaid, who lives in the apartment, suffered minor injures and was treated at the scene.
Kinsey says it was a difficult fire to fight because the apartment is located on the second floor of an older commercial building.
Kinsey says if there is a lesson to be learned from this fire, it’s to make sure your house has working smoke detectors and leave fighting fires to the professionals.
It took fire fighters from Uhrichsville, Dennison, Dover, Gnadenhutten, New Philadelphia, and Rush Township about three hours to extinguish the blaze.
