Baltic Woman’s Death is being Investigated

Holmes County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating the death of a Baltic woman following a single vehicle wreck.

32-year old Melissa S. Lawson of 206 N. Ray Street was pronounced dead at Pomerene Hospital Monday evening by the county coroner.

Deputies say Lawson was traveling on County Road 19 in Mechanic Township when she lost control on a curve.  Her vehicle went off the road, struck a fence and came to rest in a small creek.

Deputies say it appears Lawson may have been ejected from the vehicle when the driver’s side door opened because a passerby found her on the ground next to the vehicle.

An autopsy is being conducted to determine the cause of death.  Deputies say injuries Lawson received as a result of the crash did not appear to be life threatening, however, any internal injuries or pre-existing health conditions are unknown at this time.

Deputies say alcohol appears to be a factor in the wreck.

Lawson’s estimated speed at the time of the crash was between 20 and 28 miles-per-hour.
