Gas Line Break Causes Evacuation

A gas line break Thursday morning caused the evacuation of a small section of Newcomerstown.

Fire chief Bobby McGarry says his department was notified about 9 am that workers trying to install a light pole had accidentally hit a gas line at the intersection of Canal and Bridge Streets.

McGarry says Columbia Gas estimates between 100 and 200 people will be without gas until late Thursday or possibly early Friday morning.

McGarry says nobody was injured in the mishap.

Newcomerstown was assisted at the scene by the Delaware Valley Fire Department.
