Conotton Valley Abolishes Music Programs, Suspends Wrestling

The Conotton Valley School Board will continue to look for ways to cut costs during a scheduled work session next month.

Superintendent Adam Pittis says the board on Monday approved abolishing the music and band program for grades kindergarten through 12 for a savings of over $60,000 annually.

He says the savings comes mainly from a reduction in staff and does not include the cost of transportation and instruments.

Pittis says the board also voted to suspend the district’s wrestling program for the current school year due to a lack of interest.

He says additional reductions to close a projected $400,000 deficit are also possible.

Pittis says the board will look at all areas and at every dollar the district spends when considering additional reductions.

Voters earlier this month turned down a 9.96 mill 10-year levy request by the district.  Pittis says the board could go back to voters in the future.

The board’s work session has been scheduled for Thursday, December 13th at 6 pm at the administration building.
