Larry R. Stein, 76, of 105 Prospect St. Baltic, died Friday November 23, 2012 at 9:57 PM in Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia after an extended illness. Born April 2, 1936 near Baltic he was a son of the late Clarence “Pappy” and Elma (Drescher) Stein.
He retired as a rural mail carrier in Baltic after 30 years. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church at Baltic. Larry enjoyed playing Jass with his friends at the Schoenbrunn Jass Club and was a fan of NASCAR and Sprint Racing. He also served in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife the former Margaret Geib whom he married June 22, 1990. Also surviving are 4 sons Mitch (Michele) Stein of Baltic, Brent (Darlene) Stein of Millersburg, Greg Stein of Dover and Matt (Michelle) Stein of New Philadelphia; 3 step sons Tim (Terri) Lorenz of Kentucky, Mark (Steph) Lorenz of New Albany and Steve (Melinda) Lorenz of Baltic; 14 grandchildren Ashley (Andrew), Justin, Haley (Kevin), Caleb, Sabrina, Ian, Olyvia, Stephanie, Julianna, Nicholas, Joel, Abigail, Rachel and Micah; a sister Haroldine Schumacher of Alliance and 4 nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Larry’s wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Monday November 26, 2012 at 11:00 AM in St. John Lutheran Church at Baltic with Rev. John Paul Maroni officiating. Burial will take place in West Lawn Cemetery at Baltic at a later date. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 to 7 PM in the Smith-Varns Funeral Home at 1018 W. Main St. Sugarcreek and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. For those unable to attend please visit the funeral home’s web site to share a memory and sign the guest register.
