Gary was born on September 17, 1950, at Dover, Ohio, a son of the late Mildred and Robert Short. Gary graduated from Dover High School in 1969 and Ohio State University in Columbus,
Ohio in 1973 with a civil engineering degree. He started working for Bechtel Engineering early in his career, and remained with the company for many years, with he and his wife Jeannette living in many locations around the country for his assignments. They loved to travel, and visited
many of our country's national parks and landmarks. This presented Gary the means to pursue his hobby of photography. They relocated back to Dover for several years, before moving to Columbus for another engineering assignment.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jeannette (Watkins) on August 28, 2012, and by his parents, Robert and Mildred Short.
He is survived by a brother, Harry (Nancy) Short of Dover, a sister, Cathy (Tim) Mekota of Chardon, and a nephew and niece, Gus and Hannah Mekota.
A memorial service is Saturday, December 1, 2012, at 12:00 pm at Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory
in Dover. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 10:00-12:00 pm on Saturday. Following the service, inurnment will take place at Dover Burial Park. A meal will follow the service of commital at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center.
