Engineers Assess Sinkhole, Damaged Roadway

The Ohio Department of Transportation should know next week how best to proceed with repairing a large sinkhole on State Route 516 just west of Dover.

ODOT says a pond collapsed next to the roadway Wednesday shortly before 3 pm creating the hole that is reportedly estimated at 20 to 30 feet deep and several hundred yards long.  The collapse also took out the westbound driving lane of State Route 516.

District 11 Public Information Officer Becky Giauque says ODOT specialists from Columbus are expected to assess the situation soon.

Giauque says State Route 516 between Bair Road and Josephine Street NW will remain closed indefinitely and says it could be spring before that section of roadway is reopened to traffic.

No one was injured and there was no damage to any vehicles.
