Born at Atwater, Ohio, February 21, 1925, she was a daughter of the late William J. & Florence Werterberger Briceland.
A 1943 graduate of Ravenna City High School, she worked as a secretary for many years in the banking industry.
On October 19, 1962, she married Raymond D. Morgan. The couple celebrated thirty-two years together before his death in1994.
She was a longtime member of the Arlington Church of the Nazarene at Akron and with her love of music, played the accordion, piano and organ for worship services.
Helen will be fondly remembered by her family for her love of music and her gift at writing poetry, which was recognized and published in a collection of contemporary American poetry.
Survivors include her niece; Suzanne Strong of Essex Junction, Vermont. Great-nieces Jill Gilmore of Dover, Kelly Gilmore of Elkton, MD, Elizabeth Strong of St. Louis, MO and Christina Strong of Santa Cruz, California. A great-great nephew, Timothy Newland of New Philadelphia also survives.
In addition to her parents and husband, Helen is preceded in death by an infant daughter, her sisters; Marguerite Skilton, Hope V. Marvin, brothers; William, Ronald and Charles Briceland and a sister-in-law, Claudia Briceland.
Friends are invited to call Friday, December 7, from 9:30 – 10:30 AM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.
The Rev. Edward Morrison will lead Mrs. Morgan’s funeral service Friday morning at 10:30 in the funeral home’s chapel.
Burial, alongside her husband and daughter, will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery at Ravenna, OH.
Those unable to attend are invited to share memories and condolences with the family, and also light a memorial candle for Helen by visiting the funeral home’s website.
Memorial contributions are encouraged to be made to a non-profit organization of the donor’s choice in Helen’s name.
