Flu Season Off to Early Start

Health officials say this year’s flu season is shaping up to be a bad one after getting off it its earliest start in nearly 10 years.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports significant increases in flu activities in the U.S in the last two weeks.

Nicole Bache, Director of Nursing at the New Philadelphia City Health Department, says while she hasn’t seen a lot of cases of the flu locally, it is being reported all across the state.

Bache says so far, the city health department has given out 770 doses of the flu vaccine.  She says the easiest way to protect yourself from the flu is to get the flu vaccine.

Bache says frequent hand washing is another important way to avoid getting sick.
